The web loves Lady Dimitrescu, Resident Evil Village’s principal villain. At this level, the world’s thirst for the extraordinarily tall vampire girl has morphed into a nigh-inescapable meme, like a a lot hotter, extra prolific model of ‘Mr. X Gon Give It to Ya‘ – and it appears Capcom couldn’t be happier that everyone’s speaking concerning the new Resident Evil. Now the builders are breaking down the inspirations that introduced Lady Dimitrescu to life.
The preliminary concept was to create a “bewitching vampire” whose depiction wouldn’t be “constrained by how vampires have been portrayed in numerous types of well-liked leisure,” artwork director Tomonori Takano tells IGN. Takano cites three particular sources of inspiration: a serial killer, a Japanese city legend, and Morticia Addams.
Fans have already suspected the city legend bit, not less than, and sure, Lady Dimitrescu was impressed partly by Hasshaku-sama, a ghost story which originated on Japanese discussion board 2chan. The Hasshaku-sama is often depicted as an especially tall girl in a wide-brimmed hat and a white costume, identical to our Lady D.
Then there’s Elizabeth Báthory, a Sixteenth-century Hungarian noble who has considerably grimly been awarded the Guinness World Record of ‘most prolific feminine assassin’. Her murders are very actual and well-documented, however tales ultimately grew to recommend that she bathed within the blood of virgins to keep up her youth. (That PS5-exclusive Maiden demo appears to lean into this concept.)
And there’s Anjelica Huston’s take on Morticia Addams. What extra must be mentioned? What an icon.
“I don’t suppose anybody [on the team] might have predicted how splendidly followers have reacted to Lady Dimitrescu,” Takano says. “Personally, I used to be significantly struck by feedback like, ‘I wish to be chased by her.’”
Give the complete interview a learn, it’s a delight.
