From Software, the creators of the Souls games and Bloodborne, have finally released the story trailer for their new game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. While the Sekiro story trailer doesn’t give us very much information about the main plot, it still gives us a peek into the protagonist’s origins.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice takes place during the closing years of the Sengoku era, a period in Japanese history where a lack of central authority in the Shogunate caused Japan’s many different clans to war against each other. The protagonist, alone and desperate after a battle, was adopted by a samurai and made into a warrior.
The game’s main plot revolves around the protagonist rescuing the young lord that has been kidnapped to perform a dark ritual with his blood. Armed with his katana and a prosthetic arm full of different tools, the samurai must now set off on a journey across Japan, overcoming twisted adversaries and enormous monsters to do so.
The Sekiro story trailer that we got today will hopefully not be the only one that we get in the time between now and the game’s release date. We still don’t really know much about the game’s story, though that fits From’s storytelling style where players are often expected to fill in the gaps about the plot for themselves.
Sekiro seems like it has a more coherent narrative than past Soulsborne games, so that may not be an issue, but there’s still always the possibility that there will be a lot of weird stuff happening behind the scenes that we’re not going to be given an answer for, like the giant snake.
Either way, you can follow this link to see the Sekiro story trailer for yourself, and be on the lookout for the game when it releases on March 22 of this year for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
