According to FFXIV director Naoki Yoshida, Final Fantasy 16 and 17 should be focused on fantasy only, with less machinery and without mecha.
At a recent Paris Fan Festival, Naoki Yoshida was asked some tough questions about Shadowbringers and the upcoming games in the Final Fantasy Series. The director shared his thoughts about the elements that upcoming Final Fantasy XVI and XVII games should offer.
Naoki Yoshida said:
Huh? Hmm, you guys are asking some tough questions [laughs]. That’s funny, I thought FanFests were supposed to be fun, but here we are with this super hard question [laughs]. First, if you’re asking whether the Final Fantasy series will get another MMO soon, I think the chances are unlikely so long as Final Fantasy XIV is doing well. On that note, personally speaking, I’d like to see a Final Fantasy that is straightforward fantasy, one that doesn’t have much machinery, and with no mecha in it. After all, we’re having trouble with the Garlean Empire being too powerful. Ah, okay, that was a bad joke [laughs].
There you have it, the chances of another MMO in the Final Fantasy series are very rare but definitely possible. Also, he didn’t confirm if Nobuo Uematsu-san will be composing a theme song for upcoming Shadowbringers. Uematsu-san hasn’t been feeling himself lately and the team can’t have him working straight after recovery, despite the fact he claims to be feeling better.
As for Final Fantasy 14 MMORPG, it is doing extremely well which is the reason why we are now getting the third expansion which will take us on new adventures. FFXIV Shadowbringers is now available for pre-order.
You can pre-order Shadowbringers from Steam or official Square Enix site to receive new jobs, new playable race, new raid, New Trust system, New Game plus, world visit system and more. Detailed information about this new expansion will be shared in March and it officially releases on July 2, 2019.
Final Fantasy 14 is now available to play on PC and PlayStation 4.
