Epic reduces the price of the turkeys Fortnite permanently on PC and consoles

It has also introduced a new payment method on smartphones.

Epic Games has announced the initiative “Mega Drop” for Fortnite.

The players of the battle royale on PC and consoles will be reduced, the price of turkeys on a permanent basis in around 20%; for example, the pack of 1,000 turkeys has been reduced from 9,99 € 7,99 €.

Users of Fortnite who have bought turkeys in the past 30 days will receive a refund in-game currency with the difference between the original price and the current. Returns should arrive before next Monday.

The workhorse of the movement, yes, it seems to be in the mobile market. Versions of Fortnite for iPhone and Android will offer from now on a new option of “direct payment” as an alternative to the official media outlets of Apple and Google, to avoid having to take their usual 30% of the purchases in-game.

Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic, is one of the members of the industry who has expressed his discontent for this percentage, even to initially publishing the game outside of Google Play in Android; the past month of April gave in, but not before complaining about the treatment they received the apps that are not installed through the Google store.

“Apple and Google take an exorbitant 30% of all payments”, said Epic in a statement released today. “If Apple and Google reduced their share of the payments, Epic will pass that savings on to the players.”

The company has complained that a multitude of apps officially approved by Apple to accept direct payments, including “Amazon, Grubhub, Nike SNKRS, Best Buy, DoorDash, Fandango, McDonalds, Uber, Lyft, and StubHub,” and considers that all the apps should allow that option.

It is a risky bet, since this option seems to go directly against the standard 3.1.1 of the App Store: “if you want to unlock features or functionalities within your app, (for example (…) currency in-game (…) you must use the in-app purchases. The apps will not be able to use their own devices to unlock content or functionality (..) [and] will not use buttons, external links and other calls to action that lead consumers to mechanisms for purchases that are not the in-app purchases.”

We will be attentive to the impact of the movement.

2They also offer a peak again by login in the game.
