Here’s Everything We Know About Ubisoft’s Skull And Bones

Skull and Bones is one of Ubisoft’s most anticipated titles, bringing all things we love in naval battles with the touch of high-end graphics. Being a solid adaptation of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, we’ll have to wait some more since the company hasn’t given out its release date yet. What do we know about Skull and Bones until now though?

What is it?

Skull and Bones is a tactical action video game title developed by Ubisoft Singapore, revolving around piracy and naval warfare. It is a multiplayer title (with single-player campaign included) that is releasing on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, and PC, with no release date yet stated. Estimations expect it to launch Q3/Q4 2018 with proper visual enhancements for PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X.

Skull and Bones has been built on from Black Flag, but is going whole hog on the pirate angle, rather than putting pirate gameplay into an Assassin’s Creed game. This time, players will control a custom-made pirate captain as you sail around the Indian Ocean, living the pirate life and building up your name as a feared pirate captain while also possibly building a pirate fleet of your own.

However, in addition to the single player narrative, the Skull and Bones stories will also have a multiplayer narrative in the form of its “Disputed Waters” game mode. In that mode, players will take on the role of two different groups of pirates that are looking to salvage cargo in disputed parts of the Indian Ocean.

Played in third-person, Skull and Bones will let players take the role of a pirate captain and sail the sea and take on massive naval battles. Players may collect additional ships throughout the game, such as sloops-of-war, frigates, and brigantines, whose weapons include mortars, broadside cannons, and rockets. You can take part in party battles too, with up to 5 player parties and set up strategies to trap the enemy ships. Wind and perfect positioning will determine the outcome, so using them to your advantage will turn the tide quickly.

As expected from a pirate-themed title, hunting for treasures will also play a role. A core component is the multiplayer mode Loot Hunt, where groups of players are challenged in treasure hunting to further accumulate their riches. As you progress, you will build a fleet of ships you can customize, prey upon lucrative trade routes, and take down rival pirate captains both legendary AI and other players.

When is it coming?

Skull and Bones has no stated release date yet, however, its store pages indicate that its launch will come somewhere during Fall 2018 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Before that time comes, Ubisoft has announced to be having a beta period so if you’re interested in joining you can go ahead and register your e-mail.
